Okay so i'm 18.... but i thought this was funny!

If you are 40 or older you will think this is hilarious!!!!

When I was a kid, adults used to bore me to tears
with their tedious diatribes about how hard things were when they were growing up; what with walking twenty-five miles to school every morning ... uphill; BOTH ways

yadda, yadda, yadda.

And I remember promising myself that when I grew up, there was no way in hell I was going to lay
a bunch of crap like that on kids about how hard I had it and how easy they've got it!
But now that I'm over the ripe old age of thirty, I can't help but look around and notice the youth of today.

You've got it so easy! I mean, compared to my childhood, you live in a damn Utopia!
And I hate to say it but you kids today you don't know how good you've got it!

I mean, when I was a kid we didn't have The Internet. If we wanted to know something,
we had to go to the damn library and look it up ourselves, in the card catalog!!
There was no email!! We had to actually write somebody a letter ...with a pen!
Then you had to walk all the way across the street and put it in the mailbox and it would take like a week to get there!

There were no MP3's or Napsters! You wanted to steal music, you had to hitchhike to the damn record store and shoplift it yourself! Or you had to wait around all day to tape it off the radio and the DJ usually talked over the beginning and @#*% it all up!

We didn't have fancy crap like Call Waiting!
If you were on the phone and somebody else called they got a busy signal, that's it!

And we didn't have fancy Caller ID Boxes either! When the phone rang, you had no idea who it was!
It could be your school, your mom, your boss, your bookie, your drug dealer, a collections agent, you
just didn't know!!! You had to pick it up and take your chances, mister!

We didn't have any fancy Sony Playstation video games with high-resolution 3-D graphics!
We had the Atari 2600! With games like 'Space Invaders' and
'asteroids'. Your guy was a little square! You actually had to use your
imagination!! And there were no multiple levels or screens, it was just one screen forever!

And you could never win. The game just kept getting
harder and harder and faster and faster until you died! Just like LIFE!

When you went to the movie theater there no such thing as stadium seating!
All the seats were the same height! If a tall guy or some old broad with a hat
sat in front of you and you couldn't see, you were just screwed!

Sure, we had cable television, but back then that was only like 15 channels
and there was no on screen menu and no remote
control! You had to use a little book called a TV Guide to find out what was on!
You were screwed when it came to channel surfing! You had to get off
your ass and walk over to the TV to change the channel
and there was no Cartoon Network either! You could only get cartoons
on Saturday Morning. Do you hear what I'm saying!?!
We had to wait ALL WEEK for cartoons, you spoiled little rat-bastards!

And we didn't have microwaves, if we wanted to heat something up we had to use the stove or go build a frigging fire. Imagine that! If we wanted popcorn, we had to use that stupid Jiffy Pop thing and shake it over the stove forever like an idiot.

That's exactly what I'm talking about! You kids today have got it too easy.
You're spoiled. You guys wouldn't have lasted five minutes back in 1970!

Regards,
The over 40 Crowd

Im in agreement with you. But i think that people of 80´s like me are lucky to know the two worlds.

When we was in summer camp when we was 9 or 10 years we made friends and the only mode to speak with them was by phone or by card, there wasnt mobiles.

We knew the last Atari and the new nintendo´s.

We played in iron swings with dangerous corners and we have our first war scars XD, and now we see the new swings in special areas with all protection measures... (all of you know someone thats fall down from the top od the slide)

We saw the mobil phone epidemic, and the born of internet.

And las but not least important we are the last generations that had not grown with the !insane fast food!

But the real truth is that we have an easier life becouse of that over 40 crowd. Thanks.

PD: Its my first "long" post in english I hope you can understand it XDD

I'm very nostalgic over my 90's childhood. Almost everything in that post kinda applies to what I can recall. Except the remotes and microwaves.

And I grew up on 8-bit Nintendo, but I had an Atari somehow. Even a Commodore 64! Those were prolly my dads tho. =P

I grew up with my Atari... but we did get a Nintendo eventually.
We didn't have a microwave until I was at least 12 years old.
And yes, Mom popped popcorn on the stove.
My first experience with a computer was with Q Basic (don't even
ask me to try and explain that lol).
We never had caller ID or call waiting... we even had rotary phones!
I never had a cell phone until I was about 20 years old.
And I never had cable growing up.. we had an antenna.

LOL... and guess what? I'm 32!

Thanks, thanks a lot. Now I truly feel old. My first PC was a TRS80 with a tape drive. Yes, this is a cassette tape drive. I got into it early though. My grandpa built computers for Zenith in his spare time. I don't mean putting all the parts into a case. I mean soldering the capacitors and such to the board. I wish I had more interest in it at the time. I just wanted the damn thing to work so I could play my text games. Very Happy

Atari 2600 HA! I had a Calecovision FTW!

Well I think my Parents still have the old Beta Player in their basement. I should see if I can actually find it.

Atari and Intellivision FTW. My dad would get so pissed off when I would beat his ass at Sea Battle....

Now you see, back in the 80's, Australia was still at the technological level of a 70's America...

So theoretically even though we've caught up now, would that make me a 70's child? Razz

I still have my Beta Player.... AND it still works!
I have a slew of movies and stuff I taped from tv on
my Beta tapes, from when I was a child. I'd like to get
some of it transfered to DVD.

Kids nowadays are completely off the charts. I suppose we seemed the same way to our parents, but it's at least a slap of reality. Children having sex and getting pregnant, murdering each other, forming gangs, swearing from the womb . . . . This isn't , at least, progression.

Holy crap! You're not 30+? I thought for the longest time that you were older than me. Damn that tricky Australian voice!
